Savoury Cheese and Herb Muffin Recipe
If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for easy, nourishing foods that actually keep your family full and satisfied, without relying on sugar or refined carbs.
These gluten-free, sugar-free, high-protein cheese and herb muffins have quickly become a staple in our home. They’re super flavourful, moist, savoury, and packed with real ingredients that support steady energy and balanced blood sugar.

Why I Love These Muffins
These aren’t your typical muffins that leave you hungry an hour later. They are:
Naturally gluten-free (using certified gluten-free oat flour)
Sugar-free
High in protein (13 grams per muffin!)
Savoury (no sweet overload!)
Kid-approved and freezer-friendly
Because they’re rich in protein, fibre, and healthy fats, they help keep everyone feeling full longer, especially helpful on school days, busy outdoor days, or when we’re running between activities (bring some along).
A Savoury Alternative to Sweet Baking
So many “healthy” baked goods are still loaded with sweeteners, even natural ones. While those have their place, I love having savoury options that don’t spike blood sugar.
Using oat flour gives these muffins a soft, hearty texture and adds natural fibre that supports digestion and energy balance.
They pair beautifully with eggs, my yellow curry chicken soup recipe, salad, or simply buttered and enjoyed on their own.
Real Ingredients & Real Nourishment
I’m intentional about using ingredients that nourish rather than deplete.
These muffins include:
- High-quality eggs for protein
- Natural cheese for calcium and fat
- Certified gluten-free oat flour for fibre and sustained energy
- Fresh or dried herbs
- No refined sugar or fillers
Each ingredient has a purpose and supports energy, digestion, and long-lasting fullness.
How We Use Them in Our Home
These muffins are incredibly versatile. We use them for:
Quick breakfasts with fruit and yogurt
Lunchbox protein boost
Side for soups and stews
After-school snacks
Travel-friendly food
I usually make a double or triple batch and freeze half so we always have something nourishing ready.
Make Them Your Own
One of the best things about this recipe is how adaptable it is.
Try adding:
- Chopped spinach or zucchini
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Green onions
- Garlic
- Different cheeses
- Extra or different herbs like rosemary or thyme
You can easily adjust to what you have in your pantry already.
A Small Way to Nourish Your Family Well
Simple recipes like this remind me that nourishing our families doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about:
Choosing better ingredients
Cooking with intention
Creating food that supports health
Keeping things realistic
These savoury muffins are one small way I try to make healthy living easier and more enjoyable for our family.
